Quilting Retreat- Decorah, Iowa

This last weekend I attended the Pine Needles quilting retreat in Decorah, Iowa. My mother, sister and niece were there so it was a great time together. I worked on 3 project and got two of them done- wall hanging and apron. The photo is of the wall hanging as I was adjusting the flowers before I appliqued them down. I got an email from Wanda today and she has delivered the 2 quilts to her friends grandchildren. She is so happy that they will have something to remember their grandma by. I have attached pictures for you to enjoy.

Special Quilts made for Wanda from Albert Lea, MN.

One of the things I enjoy doing most is making things for people that have a special request. Wanda came into the store and was looking for 2 quilts for special girls. Wanda friend, Janice, has recently passed away from cancer. Janice was the grandmother of two special granddaughters and Wanda wanted to give them something to remember their grandma by, so she had me make these quilts.

The quilts are colorful and have strips in them with words like support, friendship, family etc. Both of the quilts were backed with flannel so that they would be nice and snuggly for the girls. Thank you Wanda for letting me make these very special quilts for the girls.

Quilt Retreat

This last weekend I was at my sisters quilt retreat out at the Eagle Bluff Center. It was a great weekend of sewing and of course we did a lot of talking and laughing. I didn't get my project quite done but I have finished some Christmas napkins and placemats. Take a look at them.

Cheryl is Retiring

   It is official.... I am going to retire so that I can have more time with my family. My nine grandchildren are getting bigger and I want to be involved with all their activities. Rick and I also would like to do a little traveling.

    I will continue to do quilting classes and continue sewing. My website www.cherylsfabricgarden.com will also take some time and you can buy my products on line. I have a long arm sewing machine and I can  machine quilt your completed quilts. Please contact me if you are interested in that service. I may also help out at my sisters quilt shop. I am very excited about my new adventure.

   I thank you for your friendship and your support of the store. It has been a enjoyable 8 years.   I also want to thank my wonderful staff of Therese, Candy and Becky. They have been an intricate part of Tours and Treasures success.

Fall Classes at Cheryls Fabric Garden

    Our new fall classes will begin in September. We will be working a quilt from Terry Atkinson. The name of the quilt is "Shadow Song" and you can choose which size you would like to make it in. The picture is of a throw size. These super simple blocks have "floating points" so they will turn out great every time.
   Thursdays    Sept. 8, 15, 22 and 29th from 6:00-8:30 in Event Center.    Cost is $48 for the 4 sessions.
                 Please purchase fabrics and pattern before the first class.

I just entered my first item to an themed art show. The crossings in Zumbrota asked for items for a group exhibit called "Silverwhere" You needed to use silveware in your piece and so I made a flower - surprise, surprise. Tell me what you think.

We have a collection of "embellished bras" in our store. They were created for the purpose of Promoting breat cancer awareness. The bras hold significant meaning to all the artists involved. They each have had personal experience with breat cnacer or those affected by it. Project BRA-chester was created for Join the Journal, a local non-profit organization dedicated to promote breat awareness in the local community and to offer support to all individuals on their breast cancer journey. Dear Friends,

     The 4th of July has come and gone and now it seems we have our summer weather. I have become a pansy and like to stay indoors with the air conditioning. During June, Rick and I took a trip with a great bunch of youth to do some mission work in northern Minnesota. It was a great week and there was plenty of work to do.

Spring has finally arrived.

I am so grateful for the nice weather. A little rain mixed in but at least it is warmer.
Check out the tulips by the store.

Did you know we have shoes now at Tours and Treasures? Aren't they cute and they go so very well with our fashions. This top by Multiples would be great with either the black or white shoes.

Where is Spring?

I'm trying to stay positive with the snow falling outside. I'm just glad that is won't be around for very long. The farmers need it to get warm so they can get the crops in. Lanesboro needs it to get warm so the tourists will come back. On to something else......

We are still getting great reviews from our style show. I'm including a few picture of my staff since they are so helpful with this event.   The hostess is Therese wearing a dress from Dusek and Candy is wearing a batik dress from LA Blend.

Fun Fashions from Market

     A couple of weeks ago, Therese and I were at apparel market. They had a display there of fashions made by the college of visual arts. There were about 20 different manikins, each with a different dress on.   These 3 were our favorites. The first one is made from cds, the second from magazine pages, and the 3rd from napkins. It was very interesting how they used different mediums to come up with some pretty neat fashions. What a fun assignment for those students.

   Treasure tokens can be redeemed from April 10-16th. Just a reminder to bring them in.

It is the end of march and our store is filled with all kinds of new merchandise. We are back to the same question- Where do we put it?
Seems like it happens at this time every year.

Style Show- Fashions in Bloom
   April 9th     10:00 am. at Commonweal Theater in Lanesboro.
   If you have not already signed up, please call for reservations 507 467-4466. Cost is $20 which includes our Mini-Sessions on all kinds of topics, Style Show and lunch. The Arnold-Bradley band will be preforming for your entertainment.

Market
    Therese and I have been at market the last couple of weeks buying for fall. (I know, spring is barely here.)   We always find some things for shipping right away and I have to share these hats with you. They are made by a lady in Minnesota and they are made from mens neckties. She has used lots of decorative stiching on them. (must be a Bernina Sewing Machine) They are just so fun and you must come in and try one on.
